Most dry-weather wedding ceremonies at Washington State History Museum are staged in the concrete amphitheater bowl, and this wedding on a cloudy but dry August day was no exception. This gallery starts with a few detail and getting-ready photos in a fifth-floor conference room, then portraits of the bride, groom and wedding party on the museum's front porch. After the ceremony, everyone headed to the fourth floor for dinner, toasts and cake, then down to the third floor later for dancing.

Chilly March weather made sure that, with the exception of a quick portrait session with the groom and groomsmen, this wedding took place entirely within the walls of Washington State History Museum. After the bride and bridesmaids prepped in a fifth-floor room, they descended the master staircase and entered the ceremony on the Grand Lobby floor. After the first kiss, the wedding party retreated back to the fifth floor to take some portraits in privacy and comfort before descending to the reception on the fourth floor. Later, the dance party caught fire back on the third floor, where DJ lights provided a splash of color.

A beautiful September day gave the green light for the ceremony to take place in the concrete amphitheater bowl, with built-in seating for 200 guests. A series of photos shows the dramatic path for the wedding procession, down the curving outdoor staircase and around to the floor of the bowl. The reception afterward was spread out over the third, fourth and fifth floors, with most events taking place on the fourth floor, and dancing on the third floor, under the museum's soaring arches.

In addition to the weddings we've photographed at Washington State History Museum, we've had a chance to photograph many other brides, grooms and wedding parties in front of WSHM's photogenic architecture — its soaring brick arches, stainless steel walls, curving concrete bowl, and even its colorful metal railings make for some great photos! Being centrally located in Tacoma's Museum District, right across from a light rail station, we often find ourselves passing by WSHM with portrait subjects in tow. This gallery combines a variety of portraits taken at WSHM of wedding clients renting one of the other nearby attractions.
